====== Ice9 wiki (Richard's digital stuff) ======

Welcome to Richard White's portal!
((Despite the icon, this page is not about string theory.
In fact the icon is a homage to Kurt Vonnegut's novel "//Cat's Cradle//".))

FIXME
This is intended to be a partial replica of the wiki on Crinum and Drimia,
with some namespaces only readable by users who are logged in.
Much remains to be done!

This wiki also serves as a test-bed and gateway to
a number of web sites and resources,
not all of which are publicly available.
((I am converting this site to a wiki using [[doku>|DokuWiki]].
This will make it easier to manage and incorporate new features.))

===== Computer stuff =====

==== Uploads ====

For sending big files to me (Richard White).
You'll need a user name and password from me.

FIXME
You'll need an FTP client (a program for uploading files to a server).
When you start your FTP program, connect to ''ftp.ice9.tk''.

=== Recovery options in Windows ===

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/recovery-options-in-windows-31ce2444-7de3-818c-d626-e3b5a3024da5

== Things to try ==

  - Try disabling and/or re-enabling Secure Boot
  - Try the Startup repair function: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/recovery-options-in-windows-31ce2444-7de3-818c-d626-e3b5a3024da5#bkmk_startup_repair&WindowsVersion=Windows_10
  - Look in the filing cabinet for a possible recovery disk
  - "If your PC won't start and you haven't created a recovery drive, download installation media and use it to restore from a system restore point or reset your PC.":
    - Try to "reset" your PC: "Resetting reinstalls Windows 10, but lets you choose whether to keep your files or remove them, and then reinstalls Windows. You can reset your PC from Settings, the sign-in screen, or by using a recovery drive or installation media."
    - If this fails, reinstall Windows
